The Zimbabwe Human Rights Association calls for the immediate release of Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) Head of Current Affairs, Blessed Mhlanga, arrested Monday 24 February 2025, on two counts of contravening section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly transmitting data messages inciting violence.
This arrest is a clear violation of his rights to freedom of expression and association as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe, particularly under Section 61, which guarantees the freedom of the media and the right to impart information.
We stand in solidarity with Mhlanga, a journalist who has continued to show unwavering commitment to truth and justice, despite facing harassment.
