ZimRights Distances Itself from Partisan Politics
Condemns Malicious Attempts to Link the Association with Blessed Geza
The Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) has learnt with great concern of a video circulating on social media that makes a desperate attempt to link the association with Blessed Geza’s activities. The association would like to make it categorically clear to its members, the nation and the world that it does not participate in any partisan politics. The association rejects and condemns any allegations that it is linked to Blessed Geza. It is not.
On 5 April 2025, ZimRights was made aware of a social media video that is spreading malicious falsehoods meant to tarnish and damage its good name. ZimRights’ human rights content is shared publicly as part of the organisation’s lawful civic education work. This content is available freely on all social media platforms. We are aware that such content often goes viral and is carried by many other platforms. We do not object to any other platforms making use of our content to spread the gospel of human rights. We however object to any malicious attempts to manipulate this content to create false narratives. ZimRights is a legitimate human rights organisation formed in 1992, formally registered in terms of the laws of Zimbabwe in 1993, with the goal to advance the rights of all people. This is the work that we have carried out faithfully for more than three decades without dabbling in partisan politics. Our record speaks for itself. We have also taken note of attempts by unknown digital assailants to hack into our media platforms including our website and the ZimRightsLive platforms. These attacks are uncalled for, and we condemn them as a violation of our fundamental freedoms.
We take these attacks very seriously and remain undeterred in our work. These attacks violate the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Defenders adopted by the General Assembly in its resolution 53/144 . Article 1 of the declaration states that everyone has the right, individually and in association with others, to promote and to strive for the protection and realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms at the national and international levels.
As we work to restore our platforms to normalcy, we urge all our members to remain vigilant in defence of human rights. We remain focused in our vision of realising a society in which communities actively lead in creating and sustaining a culture of human rights.
