Celebrating Team ZimRights: Unity in Action

Annual Staff Retreat and Awards Night
From September 9-11, 2024, the ZimRights Secretariat gathered in Zambia for their annual retreat, culminating in an awards ceremony. This event recognized the team’s tireless efforts in promoting human rights.
Reflecting on Progress
During the retreat, the team reflected on milestones achieved since launching the SP2P Strategy on March 22, 2022. They celebrated successes, addressed challenges, and made commitments to enhance their work.
Solidarity with Grassroots Movements
In Zambia, the team connected with local human rights champions, including a community visit to the Chituko-Lima settlement. They offered support to families displaced by government development programs and urged authorities to protect their fundamental rights.
Awards Ceremony
ZimRights National Chairperson, Mr. Takesure Musiiwa, hosted the awards ceremony, honoring the Secretariat’s outstanding contributions.

“When I look at you,” he said, “and then see the work that comes out, I see a mismatch. The work is too much and yet you are just a small team, doing great things.”
Mr. Musiiwa chronicled the story of ZimRights, highlighting challenges faced and the current turnaround process that has seen ZimRights regain its leadership in empowering communities.
Recognizing Excellence
Three staff members received the ZimRights Award of Excellence:
- Ms. Faith Mamutse (Admin Unit)
- Ms. Natalia Bene (Finance Unit)
- Ms. Farirai Sibanda (Programmes Unit)
Special awards went to:
- Mr. Munyaradzi Masango (Best Dancer)
- Ms. Thubelihle Ncube (Best Dressed)
- Ms. Natalia Bene (Overall Award of Excellence)
Words of Appreciation
Speaking at the awards ceremony, ZimRights Team Leader, Dzikamai Bere, said, “We are all winners, and we must congratulate ourselves. And some of us have led the way to this victory, and we honour them and encourage them to keep inspiring us.” Bere acknowledged the leadership of the National Council of ZimRights represented by the National Chairperson. He acknowledged that this passing year had not been easy for the ZimRights Team, but the team endured. “You are the epitome of resilience,” said Bere. “With limited resources, but so much love and commitment, you still excelled. Thank you.”
Awards Presentation
The awards were handed over by our National Chairperson, Mr. Takesure Musiiwa, ZimRights Team Leader Dzikamai Bere, special guests Mr. Washington Katema, the Southern Defenders Executive Director, and ECLC Founder and Managing Director Coach Ennie Chipembere.
