Farirai Sinothando Sibanda
Farirai Sinothando Sibanda is a dedicated lawyer, human rights advocate, and community development specialist with extensive experience in transitional justice, legal and policy analysis, and stakeholder coordination. Before being promoted to Regional Manager, Farirai gained significant experience working with prominent human rights organisations. She previously held the position of Community Engagement Officer at ZimRights, where she coordinated human rights education, facilitated community dialogues, and supported the development of human rights reports. She also served at the African Union Economic, Social, and Cultural Council (AU ECOSOCC), where she contributed to policy advocacy, civil society coordination, and the implementation of regional human rights programs. At the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, Farirai produced critical human rights reports, coordinated multi-stakeholder advocacy efforts, and led initiatives to address transitional justice concerns. Additionally, she has worked with the Kenya Human Rights Commission and Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, gaining expertise in legal research, policy analysis, and community mobilization.
Farirai’s areas of interest and expertise include human rights, transitional justice, legal and policy analysis, advocacy, and community engagement. She is particularly passionate about empowering marginalized communities, advancing gender equality, and promoting youth participation in human rights initiatives. Her research interests span peace-building, civic space, women’s rights, governance, and public policy, reflecting her commitment to fostering a just and inclusive society.
Farirai holds an LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa from the University of Pretoria, where she graduated with distinction and received the Nelson Mandela Prize for best academic performance. She also earned a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Zimbabwe, where she was recognized as the 2017 University of Zimbabwe Brand Ambassador. In addition to her formal education, Farirai has completed several advanced certifications in human rights, including Certificates in Advocacy for Reproductive Justice in Africa, Confronting and Countering Gender-Based Violence, Civil Society Law, Women’s Rights, Judicial Enforcement of Socio-Economic Rights, and Transitional Justice. These certifications further enhance her expertise and demonstrate her ongoing commitment to advancing justice and equity.
As the Regional Manager for the Northern Region, Farirai will continue to lead and inspire efforts aimed at advancing human rights, building stronger communities, and facilitating meaningful change across Zimbabwe.
