Thomas Mbetu

Thomas Mbetu is the Programmes Officer at Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) responsible for Masvingo Province. He is a seasoned human rights defender with over 10 years experience.

Thomas joined ZimRights in 2009 as an Assistant Programmes Officer. Before joining ZimRights, Thomas was attached and worked for a host of different organisations in different work stations. In 2006 he worked in Malawi as a part time radio presenter.  He relocated back to Zimbabwe in October 2007, and joined Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition as an Assistant programmes Officer.  During his time at Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, Thomas worked tearlessly in defence of human rights. He also was involved in human rights advocacy work and citizen participation work in democratic process in Zimbabwe. In pursuit of career development, and gaining more experience in human rights as highlighted above, Thomas joined ZimRights in 2009 as an Assistant programmes officer. His joining of (ZimRights) was in a strong bid to contribute positively to the call to defend, protect and promote the rights of the poor and marginalised. In the year 2012 he was deployed to Masvingo Province to coordinate the Masvingo, and Midlands offices. Thomas read for a diploma in media studies with the Institute for commercial management (ICM), Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Media studies with the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU), Masters of Arts in Development studies with Great Zimbabwe University (GZU). Thomas has a profound appetite for human rights, good governance and development work.
